Homestead Financial Mortgage is an established direct lender with more than 25 years in business. As a direct lender, we handle processing, underwriting, and closing in-house, which gives our team greater control over each file, faster turn times, and a more collaborative day-to-day environment.

We grow around the right group of people. Every team member brings something different to the table, and we build our culture around responsiveness, professionalism, and helping one another succeed.

Role Overview

Are you a loan officer who excels more on the analytical side than the sales side? We are looking for a Transaction Coordinator in the St. Louis area to play a critical role in supporting our origination team.

You will assist loan officers with the analytical side of mortgage origination so they can focus on selling, serving as the liaison among loan officers, realtors, borrowers, and underwriters. The ideal candidate is a technically proficient loan officer; an active license is not required to apply.

Key Responsibilities

1Issue quality pre-approvals based on credit and income provided by buyers.
2Analyze loan-to-value and debt-to-income ratios, credit reports, applications, income and assets, and sources of down payment funds.
3Process and pre-underwrite Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loans to ensure compliance with company, investor, and agency standards.
4Coordinate among loan officers, realtors, borrowers, and underwriters to keep files moving.

Required Qualifications

Prior loan officer experience (an active NMLS license is not required to apply).
Broad knowledge of mortgage lending processes and controls, plus federal, state, and regulatory guidelines for Conventional, FHA, VA, and USDA loans.
Sound judgment and the ability to evaluate facts and data and anticipate downstream impact and risk.

Preferred Qualifications

Active or recently active NMLS license.
Experience issuing pre-approvals and pre-underwriting files.
Familiarity with Encompass.

Skills & Competencies

Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills with high attention to detail.
Able to prioritize multiple tasks in a deadline-driven environment with a strong sense of urgency.
Excellent customer service, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; highly organized.
Comfortable working in Salesforce (our CRM) and Encompass by ICE Mortgage Technology (our loan origination platform); prior hands-on experience with either is a plus, and we train the right person.
Comfortable using modern AI tools to work more efficiently - for example, drafting and paraphrasing emails, summarizing documents, and sharpening written communication - while always handling client and company information securely.
Collaborative and solutions-oriented, with a habit of picking up the phone to resolve issues directly across sales, processing, underwriting, and closing.
